The Janatha Estate Development Board is responsible for the management of agricultural and estate lands owned by the Sri Lankan Government, and has two main operations: Tea and Rubber. Under its Tea segment, the JEDB owned 16 tea estates that fall into 3 groups: Galaha, Hewaheta and Nawalpitiya. The JEDB commercially sells its inhouse ‘Jana Tea’ and also supplies it to the Sri Lankan Parliament, the Central Bank, and other government stakeholders. Compost is also collected from these estates and sold commercially. The JEDB’s rubber segment produces high-quality natural latex processed products, including Sheet Rubber, Crepe Rubber and Technically Specified Rubber (TSR). The Janatha Estates Development Board was created in 1976 and is headquartered in Colombo.
