Sri Lanka power tariff cut proposal to CEB board after El Niño deluge

A plan to cut Sri Lanka’s electricity tariffs would be submitted to the Board of Directors on later on January 09, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said after strong rainfall reduced costs.

After approval by the board the tariff cut proposal would be submitted to the Public Utility Commission.

The regulator will give a decision after a public hearing, he said.

Sri Lanka has got record inter-monsoonal rain in 2023, a phenomenon that is seen in so-called El El Niño years.
